Teleperformance Lays Off 240 Workers in Portugal via Video Call

Teleperformance, a company that operates in Vila Nova de Gaia, Lisbon, and Covilhã, has announced it is letting go of 240 workers in Portugal. The decision was made to "adjust the company's structure to the current business situation." The employees were told about the layoffs during a video call.

Manuel Gonçalves, the leader of the National Union of Telecommunications and Audiovisual Workers (SINTTAV), said the company, which is famous for its call centers, wants to save money while making sure all laid-off workers get unemployment support.

The union also said the layoffs are happening across all parts of the company's services, but Teleperformance hasn't said which jobs are being cut. A meeting between the company and union leaders is planned for October 22.

In a statement to JN, Teleperformance mentioned that the restructuring affects less than 2% of its employees and that the process is being done properly according to Portuguese labor laws.
