Five9's engineering center in Porto ranked fourth in the Financial Times' first Investment Impact Awards.
The U.S.-based cloud contact center software company moved its European tech headquarters to Porto in 2023. They mentioned the availability of skilled engineers, good connectivity, and a lively tech scene as reasons for the move. Since then, the center has become important for Five9's global growth plans.
Currently, the Porto center has over 300 employees, with about 90% working as software engineers and other tech experts. Around 70% of the team are Portuguese, and 30% are from other countries. The center focuses on export markets, which boosts Portugal's digital service exports.
InvestPorto supported the project by helping with relocation, stakeholder introductions, ecosystem integration, and recruitment. This helped the center fit into Porto's innovation environment.
Besides job creation, Five9's presence has contributed to the economy through knowledge sharing, skills improvement, and the inclusion of international talent in the local market.
The Financial Times award strengthens Porto's image as a strong destination for tech-based foreign investment and indicates potential for growth. If things keep going this way, Porto will not only host tech centers but also play a key role in forming European engineering strategy.
