Accenture Expands in Coimbra: New Technology Center Aims to Triple Team

Accenture has opened its Advanced Technology Center in Coimbra at the Pedro Nunes Institute (IPN), showing the company's expansion in Portugal. Since landing in the city in 2023 with about 30 workers, Accenture has grown fast and now has over 250 people in Coimbra. The company hopes to reach about 700 employees soon, which is the same as its Lisbon and Braga centers.

The new center works on new tech and solutions for clients in over 25 countries, from Australia to the United States. Over 63% of the team have master's degrees, most have trained locally, and the team is split almost evenly between men and women.

At the opening, Susana Mata, who leads the Advanced Technology Center, mentioned how the center helps provide services around the world while connecting with schools. Manuela Vaz, President of Accenture Portugal, said the company is focused on three things in the country: investing in people, giving clients what they need, and helping a digital economy and tech trust in Europe.

AI and Training People

Both leaders said it's very important to get people ready for an AI future. “Training people with AI skills is super important,” said Vaz, talking about Accenture’s plan to train employees for the tech changes.

Local Help and Community

Ana Abrunhosa, Mayor of Coimbra, went to the opening and showed her support for Accenture’s growth. She said Coimbra has talent and can become a center for tech and new ideas, promising that the city will keep helping Accenture grow, including finding office space.

With this new center, Accenture now runs three innovation spots in Portugal—Braga, Lisbon, and Coimbra—becoming a major tech services company in the country while working with local groups and universities.
