The CMU Portugal Academy, a partnership between Carnegie Mellon University and the Instituto Superior Técnico, is seeing strong female participation in its inaugural year. According to the Academy, 60% of the spots in the first year were filled by women, marking a significant milestone in promoting gender equality in technological education.
“Equality also involves access to training in all areas, as women have the same right to be experts and to actively contribute their ideas, projects, and knowledge,” said Raquel Yam, executive director of the program focused on digital technology training.
In its first year, the Academy received 250 applications and set a goal to train 500 professionals over the next five years, with a special emphasis on attracting even more women to the tech sector.
The program offers three specialized courses: 'AI, Data Science and Machine Learning,' 'Product Management,' and 'User Experience and Service Design.' Notably, 33% of the faculty of 45 members are women, reinforcing the Academy's commitment to inclusion at all levels.
