Nearly 30% of Jobs in Portugal Threatened by AI and Automation

AI and automation could wipe out around 30% of jobs in Portugal, according to a recent study by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation. That's potentially over three million jobs on the line, mainly the lower-skilled, lower-paid ones. The study looked at 120 jobs in the private sector and pointed out which areas are already seeing machines take over.

For example, at Sonae Group, robots are helping out in supermarkets, doing things like assisting staff and running checkouts. And at Corticeira Amorim, cork-making jobs are changing fast. A line that used to need 60 workers now only needs 10, with robots doing the rest. It’s pretty normal for workers to train these robots.

To deal with this change, the study says we need to rethink how we educate people. We need to get future generations ready for a job market that's going to be way more automated and AI-driven.
