Researchers at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) have created a patented plasma technology to produce high-purity, nitrogen-doped graphene. Commercialized through spin-off GTechPlasma, the material serves as a radar-absorbing coating that makes military aircraft and drones virtually invisible to radar.
Beyond defense, the dual-use technology applies to electromagnetic shielding, hydrogen storage, and CO2 conversion.
Key Highlights
- Radar Absorption: Minimizes vehicle radar signatures across a wide frequency range.
- Industrial Scale: Licensee Plasmaphene is constructing a €7.5M production plant in Vila Viçosa.
- Patents & Backing: Protected by 8 global patents with funding from NATO, Portugal Ventures, and the EIC.
