Customers complained about illegal money transfers from their accounts at Eurobic/Abanca. Around twenty people gathered in Caldas da Rainha on Monday, saying they lost thousands of euros in June and July because of transfers they did not authorize. They want the bank to return the money, saying they didn’t give permission for the transactions. One person, Elisabete Rebelo, said she lost €85,000.
The bank says its systems were not hacked and that the losses were caused by advanced fraud methods, like phishing, fake websites, text message scams, and misleading phone calls.
Eurobic/Abanca claims its internal checks found no problems with their computer systems and refuses to give the customers their money back.
