Brazil and Portugal are advancing collaboration in artificial intelligence and digital services, following discussions at the first Portuguese-Brazilian Dialogue on AI, held this morning in Lisbon.
The event, organized by the Brazilian Embassy in partnership with the Itaú Foundation, brought together Portugal’s Secretary of State for Digitalization, Bernardo Correia, and Brazil’s Secretary of Science and Technology for Digital Transformation, Henrique de Oliveira Miguel. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to sharing expertise, particularly in digital public service modernization, where Brazil has already achieved significant progress.
Bernardo Correia emphasized the potential for cooperation among Portuguese-speaking nations in the digital sphere, noting that a memorandum of understanding signed in February in Brasília laid the foundation for this collaboration. Following the panel, the Brazilian secretary invited the Portuguese official to visit Brasília to learn more about Brazil’s digital governance technologies, many developed by Serpro, the state-owned IT company.
According to Brazilian officials, the partnership aims to include joint projects involving government, academia, and the private sector. Henrique de Oliveira Miguel highlighted that Brazil’s experience in building e-government infrastructure and promoting digital inclusion could help Portugal’s recently launched Agency for Technological Reform (ARTE), part of the government’s broader modernization efforts.
