The cloud communications provider Bird laid off 120 jobs, representing about a third of its workforce, as part of a strategic realignment. The Amsterdam-based company—formerly MessageBird—confirmed the shift following reports from TechCrunch.
The decision follows a previous layoff of 90 employees last year after its rebranding. Bird's CEO, Robert Vis, explained that the restructuring aims to align teams more closely with customers in the Americas and Asia, rather than being a cost-cutting measure.
Despite maintaining strong finances, the adoption of AI has contributed to job reductions, a trend seen in companies like Sprinklr, Workday, and Okta.
The company, which raised $800 million in 2021, counts Meta, PayPal, Square, and Uber among its key clients. Bird's platform allows companies to manage marketing, sales, and payments through email, SMS, voice, and WhatsApp.
