Cloud communication provider Bird has cut 120 jobs, representing about one-third of its workforce, as part of a strategic realignment. The Amsterdam-based company—formerly MessageBird—confirmed the move after reports by TechCrunch.
The decision follows a previous layoff of 90 employees last year after its rebrand. Bird CEO Robert Vis explained that the restructuring aims to align teams closer to customers in the Americas and Asia, rather than being a cost-cutting measure.
Despite maintaining strong financials, AI adoption has contributed to role reductions, a trend seen in companies like Sprinklr, Workday, and Okta.
The company, which raised $800 million in 2021, counts Meta, PayPal, Square, and Uber among its key customers. Bird’s platform enables businesses to manage marketing, sales, and payments through email, SMS, voice, and WhatsApp.
