The Portuguese auto company Salvador Caetano just bought Cedar, a big car distributor and retailer in Ireland, marking its entry into the Irish market.
Cedar has over 600 employees and makes close to €1 billion each year. By 2025, they expect to sell almost 28,000 cars. They are the only importer and distributor of Renault, Dacia, Alpine, and Nissan. Plus, they have a large network of dealerships that sell Peugeot, Citroën, Mazda, Suzuki, and Opel. Cedar also has its own used car brand called Windsor.
Sérgio Ribeiro, CEO of Salvador Caetano Auto, said buying Cedar is a key move for the company to grow internationally. The current management at Cedar will stay, keeping things consistent. James McCarthy, Cedar’s CEO, said they are both eager to expand and strengthen their spot in the market, aiming to keep their place as the third-largest distributor in Ireland.
Salvador Caetano Auto started in 1946 and now does business in 48 countries in Europe, Africa, and South America. They have over 8,900 employees and made about €5 billion in 2025.
