Portugal Strengthens Space Innovation with New ESA Hubs

Portugal is getting serious about space tech with some help from the European Space Agency (ESA). They're launching two new business centers to help space startups get off the ground.

The Pedro Nunes Institute (IPN) in Coimbra and Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Lisbon will be running things. IPN will head up ESA BIC Centro+, and IST will take charge of ESA BIC Tagus+.

There's €2.8 million to play with, which will give startups cash, mentoring, and access to labs and people who know their stuff. Each spot wants to pick about six startups a year and help them grow their tech and businesses.

IST will team up with places like Taguspark Incubator, Técnico Venture Lab, and CEiiA. IPN will work with Incuba+ Azores, local towns, and other groups in the area. The idea is to turn brainpower into real-world impact and make Portugal a big deal in the space biz in Europe.
