NIC.br and .PT Partner to Strengthen DNS, Cybersecurity, and Internet Infrastructure

On November 24, NIC.br, the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee, signed an agreement with Portugal’s .PT domain to enhance cooperation in DNS infrastructure, cybersecurity, and the Portuguese-speaking registry community. The partnership includes exchanging experiences and cross-hosting DNS servers to improve name resolution and reduce latency between Brazil and Portugal.

Under the agreement, .PT servers will host .BR components and vice versa, optimizing performance amid growing cross-queries. “This agreement reinforces .BR as a firm point on the global Internet and expands longstanding cooperation between Brazil and Portugal,” said Frederico Neves, NIC.br Director of Services and Technology.

NIC.br manages the “.br” domain, IP address distribution, Autonomous System registration, and initiatives such as CERT.br, Cetic.br, IX.br, and Ceptro.br, as well as the Brazilian W3C chapter and online safety projects. The signing ceremony in Portugal included Luísa Ribeiro Lopes and Marta Moreira Dias from .PT.
