Meta has formed a new product unit to develop AI tools for the 200 million businesses using its platforms. The unit, led by Clara Shih, former CEO of Salesforce AI, will focus on creating AI solutions that enhance customer interactions and drive growth for businesses through services like WhatsApp and Messenger.
A flagship product from the unit is Meta's business AI chatbot, which allows businesses to build customized chatbots for customer service and transactions. Meta reports that businesses using its AI-driven tools, such as Image Generation, have seen a 7% increase in conversions, with further potential for growth.
Shih will oversee the development of these tools and work on driving their adoption by businesses. Meta aims to make advanced AI accessible to companies that may not know where to begin. Since its launch in April, Meta’s AI chatbot has gained more than 500 monthly active users across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Powered by Meta’s open-source Llama model, the chatbot has been downloaded over 600 million times.
