Lufthansa Technik has announced plans to build a 54,000-square-meter aircraft parts repair facility in Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal. Set in the Lusopark industrial park, the facility will focus on repairing engine parts and components, creating more than 700 jobs. Construction is scheduled for completion by 2027.
This marks Lufthansa Technik's first owned facility in Portugal, showcasing the company’s commitment to expanding operations in the region. "We are delighted to be welcomed here," said COO Harald Gloy, emphasizing Portugal’s skilled workforce and strategic importance.
A training center will be established next year to prepare future employees for the plant’s launch. Job openings, including roles for engineers, technicians, and managers, will soon be listed on Lufthansa’s website.
Portugal's Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, hailed the project as a step toward reindustrialization and a boost for the aerospace sector. Local officials and the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP) also highlighted its potential to strengthen Portugal’s competitiveness in Europe’s aerospace industry.
Lufthansa Technik, a global leader with maintenance contracts for 4,000 aircraft and revenues of €6.5 billion in 2023, sees the facility as part of its broader growth strategy through 2030, aimed at increasing international presence and capabilities.
