GitHub CEO Steps Down, Tighter Integration with Microsoft CoreAI

GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke is stepping down after nearly four years to “become a startup founder again.” Microsoft won’t replace him — instead, GitHub’s leadership will now report directly to Microsoft’s CoreAI team, led by ex-Meta exec Jay Parikh.

The shift marks the end of GitHub’s semi-independent status since its $7.5B acquisition in 2018. Dohmke will remain through 2025 to guide the transition, as CoreAI works on building an AI platform for Microsoft and its customers. The move tightens GitHub’s role in Microsoft’s AI ambitions, positioning it as part of Parikh’s vision for an “AI agent factory.”
