Cisco Portugal Warns: Cybersecurity Still Lacks Transparency Amid AI Investments

Miguel Almeida, General Manager of Cisco Portugal, cautioned that cybersecurity in the country remains unclear, citing increasing complexity due to the wide range of products and platforms used by companies.

Speaking at the AI and Cybersecurity Special Report by Jornal Económico, Almeida outlined five key areas of focus: identity, machines, network resilience, cloud, and AI data protection.

He also pointed out a shortage of local cybersecurity experts: “We have many Portuguese professionals in the country, but they don’t work for the Portuguese market.”

While 86% of companies are aware of AI-related threats, most are unprepared to address them. Almeida emphasized that focusing too much on AI investments could shift attention away from the human element of cybersecurity, leaving organizations exposed.
