BNP Paribas sees Portugal as a strategic hub for its centers of excellence

BNP Paribas thinks Portugal is super important for expanding its European centers of excellence, with tech being a big deal for the group's plans. Diogo Malato Moura, who leads Corporate and Investment Banking at BNP Paribas Portugal, says Portugal is now key to how the bank grows, uses new tech, and makes processes the same all over Europe.

The French bank has about 9,000 workers in Portugal and runs 11 operational and tech centers of excellence. These cover things like IT, risk stuff, following the rules, money stuff, and back-office duties. These centers help not just Portugal but also teams all over Europe, letting them use new tech quicker and handle processes more smoothly.

Portugal is attractive because it has smart people, good schools, language skills, stability in the Eurozone, and can handle a lot of work. BNP Paribas is still hiring and believes there's still a need for skilled people.

With tech being key to its GTS plan—Growth, Technology, Sustainability—the bank wants to boost its current centers instead of starting new ones. It aims to pass on more responsibilities and important work from Portugal to the rest of Europe.
