All operations at BMW Group's Parsdorf site in Germany are now part of the European EMAS environmental register.
This includes the high-voltage battery pilot plant for the first time. EMAS, the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, is one of the toughest environmental management systems around. It helps companies keep improving their environmental performance over time.
Hansjörg Schilp, director of the CMCC and pilot plant, said: “We're really happy that all our operations in Parsdorf are now registered with EMAS.
This shows our processes are operating at a very high level — both economically and environmentally. The whole team did an excellent job.”
Sustainable and efficient operations
Battery cell production at the CMCC uses 100% renewable electricity.
Hot water for ventilation is made from waste heat, and heat pumps power all three Parsdorf facilities. At the pilot lines, BMW is working on reducing the use of important materials, avoiding solvents, and using circular economy practices. Any leftover materials are collected and used again in production when possible. Even complete battery cells can be taken apart and recycled mechanically.
Transparent reporting
The environmental impact statement has been checked by TÜV SÜD and is now online: BMW Group Parsdorf Environmental Statement.
High-voltage battery innovation
Parsdorf is home to BMW Group’s biggest pilot plant for Gen6 high-voltage batteries.
Here, production processes are developed and tested before they are used in series production at plants in Hungary, Germany, China, Mexico, and the US. Since 2023, more than 350 employees have made initial prototypes, which are now being used in test vehicles for the Neue Klasse.
From electrode coating to cell assembly, clustering, foaming, and final inspection, every step focuses on safety, durability, and quality.
The Energy Master control unit is added at the end to make sure each battery meets the highest technical standards.
A model for sustainable innovation
Being registered with EMAS shows BMW Parsdorf is serious about environmental responsibility, efficient use of resources, and advanced battery technology.
It combines caring for the environment with cutting-edge industrial innovation.
