Betano Portugal Reinforces Commitment to Responsible Gaming on International Awareness Day

Betano Portugal wants to remind everyone that on February 17, it's International Responsible Gaming Day. They see responsible gaming as a core part of what they do.

Online gambling brings in an average of €373,000 daily for Portugal through a special tax. With about 1.23 million active players and rising registered accounts, the industry is growing, which puts more importance on responsible practices.

José Almeida, Marketing Manager at Betano Portugal, says responsible gaming is a key part of the company's work. It's included in everything from creating products to running ads. While health groups and regulators are important, Almeida thinks gambling companies should clearly protect players and make sure gambling stays fun.

Using Tech to Protect Players

Tech is key to this plan. Betano gives players ways to set limits on how much they deposit, lose, and play. They can also ask to be temporarily or permanently excluded from playing. The company also has teams and a website for responsible gaming that offers info, tools, and help.

The regulatory group, Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ), and the industry group, APAJO, also assist with prevention efforts. Betano, as an APAJO member, backs industry-wide programs and has its own, like blocking underage or unverified users from digital channels and airing TV ads about responsible gaming.

Self-Regulation and Player Knowledge

Almeida says self-regulation tools are important because they let players control their gambling. The company often shares info about these options through newsletters, social media, and its platform to keep players informed about the tools they can use.

Tips for Players

Betano advises players to:

- Gamble for fun, not to make money

- Set and stick to a budget

- Take breaks and watch how long you play

- Avoid gambling when stressed

- Don't try to win back losses

- Keep gambling separate from alcohol or other things that impair you

- Stop minors from using platforms

- Use responsible gaming tools when needed

As the market grows and digital platforms change, the message is clear: growth and responsibility must be linked. The industry's future depends on revenue and how well companies protect their players.
