"Age Should Not Be a Barrier in Technology"

In a sector often associated with youth, Luís Dinis, a 60-year-old developer at KLx, proves age is irrelevant when passion and skill drive performance. Luís works at KLx, Crédit Agricole’s tech campus in Portugal, where 35 employees are over 50, and 8 are over 60.

A Career Built on Change

Luís began as a chemist before transitioning into IT, driven by curiosity. His career spans nearly 40 years, with roles at Telecel, Vodafone, IBM, and KLx, where he’s spent the last four years. Luís values constant change, preparing for a new internal role in 2025 focused on innovation.

Challenging Ageism

At KLx, Luís feels age discrimination doesn’t exist, but he acknowledges it persists elsewhere. His experience contrasts with a 1998 encounter when a consultant dismissed candidates over 34. Luís believes experience enhances performance, making age irrelevant.

KLx’s Inclusive Approach

KLx recently hired a 62-year-old, reinforcing its stance against age bias. Luís notes KLx values skills over age, fostering diversity through training and development.

Driven by Passion

Retirement isn’t on Luís’ horizon. As long as he enjoys his work and feels impactful, he will continue. Luís attributes his long-standing motivation to personal ambition and the joy he finds in his career.

Experience as an Asset

Luís believes age grants perspective and reduces stress. His integrated approach to work allows him to connect experiences across departments, enhancing collaboration and innovation at KLx.

Merit Over Age

For Luís, ability, not age, defines value. He advocates for focusing on skills and potential, ensuring equal treatment for all employees.
