Could Portugal’s newest drone unicorn soon be listed on a stock exchange? Tekever’s CEO, Ricardo Mendes, says the IPO decision is still open. Going public is on the table, but nothing has been settled, and he is careful not to promise more than that.
“Certainly a possibility”
Speaking to ECO/eRadar at the Game Changers Forum in Lisbon on Saturday, Mendes described the situation in measured terms. Given how fast the company is growing, an IPO is certainly a possibility. It is not a certainty, and no decision has been made.
Lisbon, London or New York?
He didn’t name a stock exchange. When asked whether a listing would happen in Lisbon, London or New York, his answer was that it’s too early to say. That leaves the question open for a company already valued as a unicorn.
Who should enjoy going public
Mendes sets one condition. If Tekever goes public, it should be because the move is good for the company, its team, its clients and its shareholders. An IPO for employees and shareholders alike has to make sense on both sides, not serve the balance sheet.
Tekever works in defense and surveillance with autonomous technology, a field where growth can be fast and capital needs are heavy. Going public is one way to fund that path, though it brings new obligations too.
What to watch next
For now, the story is a signal rather than a plan. If you follow technology companies in Portugal, Tekever is one to keep an eye on, and startup events are where updates on listings and growth often first come up.
