What happens when AI agents leave the demo stage and start working with real systems? That’s the question behind the 16th Lisbon GenAI Meetup, hosted by Riskified Lisbon on October 20, 2026, at 6:30 PM. It’s one of the generative AI events Lisbon’s community has been waiting for. Entry is free, but spots are limited.
An evening built around AI agents
This edition is a joint effort between the Lisbon GenAI Community, AI.PT, AI Lisbon and Riskified, with synvert xgeeks also helping. The focus is on AI agents that interact with real-world systems, from turning the browser into an API to rethinking how agents should be run and designed around people. Two speakers bring very different angles on making agents useful in production.
The agenda
18:30: check-in, drinks and networking
19:00: opening and community intro
19:15: Talk 1, “The Browser is the API”
19:50: Talk 2, “Please do not touch”
20:25: pizza, drinks and networking
What the talks cover
Robert Berglund, Senior Software Engineer at Riskified, will explain how his team built an AI agent that uses payment gateway portals like a human. Integrating a new gateway used to mean learning its API, mapping payloads, handling webhooks, testing and maintaining it forever, and some gateways had no API at all. Now, onboarding a gateway is reduced to a configuration entry. He’ll cover how it works, what it took to run it unattended in production, how others can try it, and where the line sits between what a model does and what stays plain code. If you work with software development companies or build integrations yourself, it’s a practical story.
André Gonçalves, Head of Innovation and Growth at synvert xgeeks, takes a more playful route. His talk compares running AI agents to how a museum runs a collection: six rooms, a few incidents and an exit through the gift shop. It ends with a question every leader now faces: are you optimizing for fewer humans, or for better human moments?
Why go
A GenAI meetup in Portugal like this offers two things slides can’t: conversation and company. Stay after the talks for pizza, drinks and chats with the Lisbon AI community. If you enjoy technology events that mix practical talks with relaxed networking, this one fits well. Grab a ticket early, since places are limited.
