Portuguese Companies Face AI Skills Gap

Companies in Portugal are adopting Artificial Intelligence very fast. However, a new study shows a big problem. Businesses are buying new software, but they are not training their workers to use it.

This trend comes from the Aon Human Capital Trends Study Portugal 2026. The report says that 98% of Portuguese companies believe AI will create new opportunities. This number is much higher than the global average. To see how tech hubs help businesses grow with new tools, managers often follow successful digital companies to study their setup.

The Training Problem

Corporate optimism is high, but actual training is lagging behind. Right now, 72% of companies in Portugal are already testing or using AI tools. This matches the global average.

However, this quick rollout creates a workforce AI readiness gap Portuguese companies must fix. In 17% of Portuguese firms, not a single employee received AI training in the last year. Also, only 24% of companies say they can easily hire new AI experts from outside.

"The real challenge is not in the technology, but in how we empower those who use it," explains the Nuno Abreu Aon Portugal workforce insight.

Fixing the Skills Gap

Since hiring new experts is hard, companies must train their current staff. Creating good corporate AI upskilling and reskilling strategies is the only way to help workers keep up with new technology.

Luckily, this shift does not mean people will lose their jobs. The study shows that 84% of Portuguese firms believe AI will only automate boring daily tasks. It will change how people work, but it will not replace existing roles completely.

The report also notes that local firms need to use HR data much better to plan their future teams. To see how corporate leaders are changing their offices and training rules for AI, managers check digital news trends every day for the latest updates.
