Nexteam Expands in Portugal with Acquisition of Former Coindu Factory in Arcos de Valdevez

The French aerospace and defense group Nexteam has officially acquired the former Coindu factory in Arcos de Valdevez, marking a major step in its expansion strategy in Portugal. The facility, which previously produced automotive components, was shuttered in December 2023, leaving 350 employees unemployed. Nexteam’s acquisition includes plans to rehire dozens of these workers and begin operations later this year, following renovations to adapt the space for its aerospace manufacturing needs.

The deal was confirmed by Ulisses Freitas, general director of Nexteam Portugal, and welcomed by João Esteves, the mayor of Arcos de Valdevez, who emphasized the strategic importance of the aeronautics sector for the region. “This is a cutting-edge sector with strong European and global momentum,” said the mayor.

Nexteam already operates a plant in the region, employing over 90 people, and closed 2023 with €8.6 million in revenue, up 22% from the previous year. The company is now targeting €50 million in annual turnover and 200 employees by 2027, especially as it expands into sheet metal production.

The group's main clients include major aerospace players such as Airbus, Safran, Dassault Aviation, and UTC Aerospace Systems.

In addition to Nexteam, local leather goods manufacturer Nosco, also based in the Mogueiras Business Park, will contribute to the regional recovery by hiring some of Coindu’s former employees.

This acquisition strengthens Arcos de Valdevez as an emerging hub for aerospace manufacturing in Portugal, with both Nexteam and Satys actively investing in the region.
