Mota-Engil Invests in Wireless EV Charging Startup Sigma Easy Charge

Mota-Engil is moving into the future of electric transportation by using its venture capital division, MEXT – Mota-Engil Next. This group has made a strategic investment in a Portuguese company called Sigma Easy Charge.

Sigma was started in June 2024 and is located in Maia. They focus on providing advanced wireless charging technology for electric cars. MEXT did not share the financial details or the size of the stake, but they say this move gives Sigma a strategic partner to help speed up the development of its industrial platform, support its growth in other countries, and combine its technology into future systems for transportation and energy.

The big advantage is that Sigma's technology could develop into a system where roads themselves can wirelessly charge cars as they drive on them, letting vehicles get power directly through the pavement. The long-term plan also involves connecting with smart grids, allowing both vehicles and the infrastructure to use and produce energy.

Sigma is creating its own special technology that works with a lot of power, using smart algorithms, latest power electronics, and smart control systems. Besides making things easier and faster, the company wants to create new ways to manage energy and use smart technology on roads. This helps drive the future of electric transportation and spread out energy systems.

Sílvia Mota, the CEO of MEXT, said the group is focused on technologies that can turn "invisible infrastructure" into important platforms. For Sigma, CFO Luís Machado said the investment is a strong sign that supports the company's goal to create the future of electric mobility and self-driving systems.
