IWG Just Opened a Spot in Matosinhos—in an Old Factory

IWG just launched its first spot in northern Portugal, called Spaces Matosinhos. It’s their 23rd in the whole country. The place is huge-4,500 m²—and it’s got private offices, coworking spots, meeting rooms, and cool creative areas. They mixed a modern look with some old factory stuff since it used to be the Joana d’Arc factory, which everyone around here knows.

The opening day had Jorge Valdeira, who runs IWG Portugal, and Luísa Salgueiro, the mayor of Matosinhos. Valdeira said they’re all about getting jobs out of the city center and giving people in northern Portugal nice, flexible places to work closer to home. Salgueiro said this is a big deal for the town’s money situation and makes Matosinhos even more important for business.

IWG is not stopping here. They’re planning to open two more places in Portugal this year because a lot of people want to work in a hybrid way. Around the world, they signed deals for 899 new spots in 2024, which shows that more and more people want flexible and green offices.
