Infineon Expands in Porto with 200 New Hires and Bonuses for Employee Referrals

German multinational Infineon is ramping up recruitment in Porto, aiming to hire 200 professionals by 2025. With 800 employees already on site, the company is growing its Portuguese operations into a competence center — not just a shared services hub.

To accelerate hiring, Infineon is turning to its own workforce through the “Hire for Infineon” internal referral program. Employees who successfully recommend candidates receive bonuses, with reward amounts depending on the experience, profile, and seniority of the suggested hires.

“We’re growing in areas like procurement, HR, finance, IT, sustainability, cybersecurity, sales, marketing, and communications,” says Andreia Figueiredo, head of HR for Infineon Europe. The hiring is being done in phases, she explains, “so as not to saturate the market.”

But attracting talent in a competitive landscape requires more than just salary. “Compensation still matters, but more people are prioritizing work-life balance,” Figueiredo emphasizes. To meet these needs, Infineon offers flexible hours, a hybrid work model, sabbatical options, and even a reverse mentoring program, where younger employees guide senior team members on emerging trends and daily challenges.

For now, Infineon’s expansion remains focused in Porto. “There are no plans for new offices elsewhere in Portugal at this time,” Figueiredo confirms.
