Ficocables will lay off 600 workers in Maia due to the slowdown in the industry

From February 20 to August 19, 2026, the company blames the cuts on the crisis in the automotive industry and fewer orders.

Unions say this is leaving workers even more worried.Ficosa has done this before, using a similar plan at the end of 2024 that was recently renewed after the end of a government wage program last December.

This layoff, which will last six months, will affect most factory employees, marking another difficult moment for the Maia factory as the industry shrinks.
