Portuguese startup DareData is transforming the NOS Legal Department with an AI-powered platform called Gen-os, aiming to automate up to 80% of repetitive legal tasks, freeing up 640 work hours per month for more strategic work. The solution uses a “human-in-the-loop” approach, ensuring that AI decisions are monitored and guided by people, especially when the risk of error is high.
The platform handles routine email-based requests by pulling data from internal systems and crafting accurate responses, a process that was previously manual. Over time, DareData expects Gen-os to handle up to 95% of these tasks, while flagging ambiguous or high-risk queries for human review. This philosophy, says co-founder Ivo Bernardo, reflects their belief that full automation in complex systems is risky and rarely viable.
Gen-os also includes a feedback mechanism to detect AI blind spots, allowing companies to refine performance in weak areas. It's already being used for customer support, with modular AI “agents” specialized in tasks like database queries or email writing, who can even collaborate with each other.
Bernardo emphasizes caution: “We don’t believe in 100% automation. AI still makes mistakes — and when the cost of those mistakes is high, people need to be involved.”
