CTT has made a major move with its latest investment in Portugal. The postal company opened a new automated operations center in Rio de Mouro, in the municipality of Sintra. This €2 million project creates around 350 jobs, boosting the local economy. But it’s not just about jobs—the facility strengthens parcel processing for Greater Lisbon. The CTT logistics hub Sintra is designed to meet growing e-commerce demands with speed and efficiency.
The center spans 5,000 m² but can expand if operational needs increase. It features a 60-output automatic sorter capable of processing up to 6,000 items per hour. That’s about 126,000 parcels every single day! The facility can prepare up to 300 delivery routes and serves nearly 900,000 people. Currently, CTT operates 75 centers across Portugal and Spain. Thirty-one are fully automated, with 17 serving both countries. During peak season, these centers can process up to one million parcels daily. CTT investment Portugal is clearly focused on scaling up operations to meet future demand.
CTT is also undergoing a leadership change. João Bento will step down in April, succeeded by financial director Guy Pacheco. Despite this transition, modernization remains a priority.
