The Portuguese-BMW tech partnership is adding 300 engineers as it accelerates work tied to BMW’s next-generation vehicle platform.
CTW — a joint venture between BMW Group and Critical Software — currently employs more than 3,000 people from 60 nationalities across Portugal:
- Lisbon: 1,200
- Porto: 1,600
- Braga: 250
Where hiring is happening
Recruitment is focused on Lisbon and Braga, targeting profiles in:
- Software & product engineering
- Artificial intelligence
- Data science
- Cybersecurity
- Digital mobility
- Autonomous driving
One highlighted strategic role is AI Mastermind Architect, positioned at the center of structuring and deploying AI across critical automotive platforms. In other words: not just coding features — shaping the brain of the car.
Why now?
CTW plays a key role in developing software across the full production chain of BMW’s Neue Klasse program — the automaker’s major next-gen vehicle architecture.
Founded in 2018, the company builds software engineering solutions exclusively for BMW in areas including:
- Autonomous driving
- Connected car tech
- On-board software
- Data analytics
- Electrification
- Production & logistics
According to Diana Silva of CTW, the expansion reflects both technological maturity and deeper involvement in Neue Klasse — a launch expected to reshape BMW’s digital and electric strategy.
Bigger picture
Portugal continues to strengthen its position as a European automotive tech hub — not manufacturing metal, but engineering the code that runs it.
And if 300 hires are announced publicly, it usually means one thing: the roadmap is long, and the bets are serious.
