From October 19th to 23rd, Coimbra will be hosting the Coimbra Tech Challenge, an international event meant to bring in and support startups across the European Union.
The event is organized by the City Council, the Pedro Nunes Institute (IPN), and Impact, a US-based company. It also gets help from several national companies like Brisa, Visabeira, Noesis, NOS, Santander, and Semapa. The event includes a mix of workshops, talks, competitions, and networking opportunities.
About 100 startups applied for the challenge, coming from countries like Ukraine, the UK, India, Israel, and South Africa.
These startups work in areas such as sustainability, healthcare, transportation, energy, Industry 4.0, and telecommunications. A group of top experts will choose the best ideas. The judges include Guilherme Horn from WhatsApp Brazil, Larry McCarthy from Standard Bank Africa, Apurva Chamaria from Google India, and Avinoam Sapir, who is known for healthcare innovation.
Coimbra has a well-known university and a strong tech community.
The city hopes to keep talented people in the area, build better connections for innovation, and become a new center for international startups in Europe.
