Allianz to Cut Up to 1,800 Jobs as AI Replaces Manual Processes

Allianz is preparing to eliminate up to 1,800 positions in its travel insurance division as artificial intelligence takes over tasks traditionally handled by call-centre staff, a source familiar with the plans told Reuters. The cuts, expected over the next 12 to 18 months, target roles at Allianz Partners, which employs 22,600 people — around 14,000 of them focused on customer inquiries and claims by phone.

The first report on the restructuring came from industry outlet Versicherungsmonitor. Allianz declined to comment on the specific job reductions, but Allianz Partners said it is reviewing how technological shifts will affect its workforce, noting that roles heavily dependent on manual work are particularly exposed.

A company spokesperson added that confidential discussions with works councils are underway.
