Porto-based opportunity with hybrid work model (up to 3 days remote).
As a Senior Data Engineer – Big Data & Cloud Platforms, you will be working for our client, a leading financial services group that specializes in management, insurance, and banking solutions. You will contribute to developing advanced data pipelines and architecture to enable innovative financial products and insights, impacting millions of customers worldwide. Your main responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and deploy robust batch and real-time data pipelines (ETL/ELT) with Python and Spark (PySpark).
- Optimize data storage solutions and query performance across data lakes, data warehouses, and lakehouse formats such as Delta Lake or Iceberg.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, participating actively in code reviews and promoting best practices (CI/CD, unit testing).
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure pipeline reliability, troubleshoot, and resolve failures efficiently.
- Collaborate closely with Data Scientists, Analysts, and Product Managers to translate data requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Enhance Spark job performance, memory management, and cost-efficiency to support scalable growth.
You’re ideal for this role if you have:
- 9+ years of experience in Data Engineering or related fields.
- Proficiency in Python (OOP, pandas, testing frameworks).
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Spark (PySpark).
- Excellent command of SQL and experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
- Cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
- Fluent English (oral and written) for collaboration with international stakeholders.
It is a strong plus if you have:
- Knowledge of modern data lakehouse formats such as Delta Lake or Iceberg.
- Certifications in cloud technologies or data engineering tools.
Language Required for the role:
- Fluent English (written and spoken).
