Your contribution to something big:
At Bosch, we are shaping the future of connected homes and industrial solutions. As a Platform Embedded Engineer, you will be at the heart of our HVAC product lines, building the robust and innovative software foundation that powers our next-generation devices.
Architect & Innovate: Design, implement, and maintain the foundational Linux-based software platform, spearheading our containerization strategy (e.g., LXC, Docker, balenaOS) to facilitate modular and efficient application deployment across all HVAC product lines.
Customize & Optimize: Tailor embedded Linux distributions (e.g., Yocto, Buildroot) to achieve optimal performance, resource utilization, and security tailored to our diverse hardware architectures.
Core Systems Development: Develop essential system services, inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms, and middleware crucial for reliable device operation and container orchestration.
Security & Updates: Implement robust platform security measures and engineer secure, efficient Over-The-Air (OTA) update mechanisms for both the operating system and containerized applications.
API & Integration: Define clear and comprehensive APIs to ensure seamless integration and extensibility between the base platform and various containerized application modules.
Collaborative Engineering: Partner closely with hardware engineers, application development teams, and other stakeholders to deliver a world-class, reliable deployment platform.
Performance & Stability: Proactively optimize platform performance, ensure system stability, implement comprehensive monitoring solutions, and meticulously debug complex platform-level challenges, including kernel and containerization issues.
Technical Guidance & Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for platform architecture, APIs, and best practices to ensure clarity and knowledge sharing.
What distinguishes you:
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
Experience: Progressive experience in embedded software development, with a strong emphasis on Linux platform engineering. Demonstrable experience in designing and implementing container-based solutions (e.g., Docker, balenaOS, Podman, LXC) for embedded systems. Proven track record of customizing embedded Linux distributions (e.g., Yocto, Buildroot).
Know-how: Deep expertise in Linux-based embedded systems (kernel internals, user-space development, systemd). High proficiency in C/C++ for system-level development, complemented by strong scripting skills (Python, Bash). Solid understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, MQTT) and inter-process communication (IPC) mechanisms. Proficiency with version control (Git), build automation, and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines specifically for embedded systems. Architectural mindset with the ability to envision complex system designs, focusing on scalability, reliability, and maintainability. Good understanding of embedded system security principles and best practices.
Languages: Fluent in English (written and spoken) for international collaboration.
Working Style and Methods: Excellent analytical and debugging skills to tackle complex, multi-layered system challenges. Proactive, collaborative, and enabling mindset, thriving on supporting other teams and engaging effectively with internal stakeholders.
Personality: Curious and passionate about cutting-edge embedded technologies and open-source contributions. A natural problem-solver with a meticulous approach to engineering.
