Siemens Kicks Off Accelerate NexGen: Paid Internships for Young Techies

Siemens is calling on students to tackle tough tech problems in energy and digital transformation with its new Accelerate NexGen program. Students in vocational programs, undergrads, and master's candidates in Portugal can apply. Teams of two could win paid internships lasting from three to twelve months.

This program combines Siemens’ old Accelerate Challenge and Digital Generation Award. It's all about tackling issues like energy infrastructure, cybersecurity, factory improvements, and making industries more sustainable. Interns will team up with Siemens pros, getting hands-on with the company’s tools and software.

Applications are open until May 28. Finalists will then pitch their projects to a group of industry pros. Hélio Jesus, who heads tech and innovation at Siemens Portugal, says that half of past interns get hired full-time. Even some who didn't make the finals have landed jobs at Siemens or partner companies.

Right now, Siemens has over 4,300 employees in Portugal, with 22% being under 30. They keep close ties with universities through training, workshops, and internships. Accelerate NexGen shows how Siemens is helping to train new tech talent and get ready for what's coming in the workforce.
