Revolut may soon start offering Portuguese Savings Certificates

Revolut Portugal is thinking about entering the public debt market and is looking into offering Savings Certificates through its app.

These government-backed savings products used to be only available through CTT and IGCP, but in 2023, other banks were allowed to offer them too. Now, Revolut is working on a plan to see if it's a good idea for them to get involved.

“we're looking into it,” said Rúben Germano, head of Revolut Portugal, during an interview with ECO.

“it's definitely a market we're interested in, but we haven't made up our mind yet. ”

Since 2024, only Banco BIG has started offering Savings Certificates.

At the same time, CTT has gone digital, letting people sign up for them through its app.

As Revolut moves customers to its new Portuguese branch, which offers national IBANs and will soon include MB Way, adding Savings Certificates could help it become a bigger player in the local financial scene.

But for now, it's still being considered.
