Portugal Faces Over Two Million Cyberthreats in Q2 2025

In the second quarter of 2025, Portugal dealt with over two million cyber threats, as reported by Kaspersky. From April to June, nearly one in five users (19.4%) experienced some form of cyber attack, placing the country 41st in the world for being exposed to online dangers.

Browsers were the main way these threats entered users' devices, with drive-by downloads and fileless malware being the most common types. These attacks are hard to catch because they can slip past regular antivirus software.

Social engineering is also becoming more common, with attackers tricking people into downloading harmful programs that look like real tools. Kaspersky recommends using stronger security methods like behavioral analysis and AI-based protections to stop these hard-to-detect attacks. In addition to online threats, local infections from USB drives and external storage devices are still a big problem, affecting 15.4% of users.

Portugal also ranks 38th as a source of cyber threats, with servers in the country connected to about 349,000 incidents around the world.
