Porto Becomes Strategic IT Hub for Dachser’s Global Ambitions

Dachser officially inaugurated its Corporate IT Hub Portugal in Porto on October 20, marking a major step in the company’s goal to become the world’s most integrated logistics provider, emphasized Stefan Hohm, Chief Development Officer.

The Porto hub occupies 750 square meters in the ICON Douro building and currently employs 67 people, with plans to grow to 90 by year-end and 120 in the near future. It is Dachser’s second-largest digital center worldwide, after Kempten, Germany, complementing other hubs in France, Hong Kong, the United States, and soon Spain. Unlike other locations built through acquisitions, the Porto hub was developed from scratch, reflecting a new strategy of location-independent corporate IT hubs that prioritize collaboration and seamless information flow.

Porto was chosen for its strategic location near the airport, access to talent from local universities, and an environment with strong English proficiency. Leadership appointments also reflect a cultural shift: Isabel Monteiro, a decade-long team member, was chosen for her alignment with Dachser’s values rather than just technical expertise.

Since its launch in November 2024, the hub has fostered a strong team spirit, transforming employees into a close-knit “family” in a short time. Susana Pinto, head of Invest Porto, highlighted the hub’s contribution to positioning Porto as a European technology center, strengthening the local innovation ecosystem, and boosting the city’s economy.

Dachser has been operating in Portugal since 1999, with around 200 employees, while globally, the company employs over 37,000 people, including 800 at its Kempten headquarters.
