The French aeronautics and defense group Nexteam has acquired the former Coindu factory in Arcos de Valdevez, aiming to triple its production capacity and create over 70 jobs by 2027. The site, which closed in December 2024 after 36 years of operation in the automotive sector, will be fully rehabilitated and remodeled by 2026.
Nexteam, present in the region since 2001, will centralize all its Portuguese industrial operations in the new 10,000-square-meter facility. The expansion includes strengthening its machining division with new clients and launching a sheet-metal division later this year.
According to local director Ulisses de Freitas, the move addresses capacity limitations in the current plant. Group president Ludovic Asquini says the acquisition will boost competitiveness, streamline production, and offer improved working conditions. “This will allow the Portuguese unit to regroup, expand, and better support its clients,” the administration stated.
