Merkle Hit by Cyberattack Exposing Data from Clients Like Microsoft and Intel

Merkle, a company owned by Dentsu that helps businesses with data-driven marketing, has been hit by a cyberattack. This attack exposed sensitive information from both Merkle’s employees and some big clients, like Microsoft and Intel. The attack happened in North America, which is part of Dentsu’s Customer Experience Management team. They noticed something unusual in their computer network and quickly turned off some systems to stop the breach from spreading.

Dentsu said that during the attack, some files were taken.

These files had details about current and past customers, suppliers, and workers. An internal message sent to employees showed that personal information, such as bank accounts, salary records, social security numbers, and contact details, was accessed.

Merkle has 16,000 employees and makes about $2 billion each year.

It works with well-known global brands like Nestlé, P&G, Heineken, and Hilton. Although the Japanese part of Dentsu wasn’t affected, the company said the incident might have some financial effects. They are still looking into what happened with the help of outside cybersecurity experts.
