Portuguese engineering firm Mecwide has acquired the COEM Group, an industrial services provider with operations in Portugal, Ireland, Angola, and Mozambique. COEM, founded in 1990 and employing around 50 people, recorded €4.4 million in turnover last year. It specializes in engineering, assembly, and maintenance of industrial systems in sectors such as energy, pharma, chemicals, and oil & gas.
The acquisition strengthens Mecwide’s position in international metalworking services, according to CEO André Pinto, and brings valuable synergies in technical expertise and resources. Importantly, COEM will maintain operational independence, continuing to work with other clients and suppliers.
Mecwide, headquartered in Barcelos, employs over 1,700 people and reached €170 million in revenue in 2024. The company, owned by founder Carlos Palhares, has over 2,000 global projects in its portfolio, spanning Oil & Gas, Mining, Energy, and Data Centers. Last year, it opened a piping prefab factory in partnership with Norway’s CTS and U.S.-based Victaulic, tied to growing data center demand.
