Lusa to Become Fully State-Owned in March

Lusa's president, Joaquim Carreira, announced that the news agency is set to become 100% State-owned by March 2024, following the finalization of the purchase of shares held by Público, NP, RTP, and Empresa do Diário do Minho. The State currently holds 95.86% of Lusa’s capital, after acquiring Global Media Group’s stake in July 2024.

Following full nationalization, the next steps include revising Lusa’s public service contract, modernizing technology and human resources, and updating the agency’s statutes and supervisory board.

Carreira emphasized the importance of reinforcing human resources, a priority also recognized by Minister Pedro Duarte. The Lusa Yearbook 2024, showcasing key events of the past year, was presented in Porto and Lisbon, with an accompanying photo exhibition running until March 13 at Porto City Hall.
