Joaquim Chaves, the founder of Joaquim Chaves Saúde, passed away on Monday at 94. He founded the company in 1959 in Mafra, which has grown to become one of Portugal's largest clinical analysis groups, operating over 400 stations and employing 3,000 people.
Chaves was a pioneer in modernizing clinical analysis in Portugal, focusing on technological innovation and improving analytical quality. He was a key figure in the Portuguese Association of Clinical Analysts and served as president of the Order of Pharmacists' southern regional section in the 1980s. His work was recognized in 2023 with the Medal of Honor from the Order of Pharmacists.
The Joaquim Chaves Saúde group remains a 100% Portuguese company, continuing its mission to uphold values of ethics, transparency, and professionalism. Funeral services will be held at Basilica da Estrela on Wednesday at 6 p.m., with the burial on Thursday at 3 p.m..
