What began as a surf trip and a wild idea turned into Unbabel—an adventure that changed my life.
Being a founder and CTO has been the most intense and rewarding experience I could have imagined. Equal parts pain and pride, growth and grit. And I wouldn’t trade a second of it.
Together, we built something bold:
- A new benchmark for AI in multilingual communication.
- State-of-the-art research, publishing at top-tier conferences, and open-sourcing tools that helped propel the entire AI ecosystem.
- A new category—Language Operations (LangOps)—that’s set to transform the localization industry.
- A contribution to the growth and advancement of the Lisbon startup ecosystem.
I’m especially proud of how we stayed true to our values while doing hard things. We’ve built a great culture.
To my co-founders—Vasco Pedro, Bruno Silva, Hugo Silva, and Sofia Pessanha—thank you. Building Unbabel with you has been unforgettable. What we pulled off together was anything but ordinary.
And to the entire Unbabel team, past and present: thank you for believing in the mission, for challenging me, and for making the journey meaningful.
I’m stepping away for now to rest, reset, and spend time with my family. But I’m not done building.
