Get Portugal on Board with AI, Says Expert

Ramayya Krishnan, an AI policy expert, is pushing Portugal to really get going with artificial intelligence (AI). He thinks it's super important to turn what AI can do into stuff that actually works in the real world. At the Responsible AI Forum 2025 in Lisbon, Krishnan pointed out that cool tech like Gemini 3.0 and OpenAI’s GPT are great, but they only matter if we use them.

He’s all about getting small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) involved. He says making them better and faster is super important if they want to compete worldwide. Krishnan also said, “How we put this into action shapes who we need working on it.” He’s saying we need to train people for the jobs that AI will bring.

Krishnan wants everyone to understand AI and have access to it. He thinks it’s important not to leave anyone out. If we want AI to help our economy grow, we need to build skills, get our workforce ready, and make sure everyone can join in.

During the Tech Talent Decoded webinar, some big names in the business agreed that salaries are going up because companies from other countries are hiring people remotely in Portugal. But they also said that people want more than just a big paycheck. They care about interesting work, chances to move up, and a good life outside of work. Companies like Capgemini and OutSystems are trying to help with things like moving, training, benefits, and letting people try different jobs inside the company.

Portugal could be a big deal in tech because of where it is, how much things cost, and the skills of its workers. But the speakers all agreed that keeping talent around is the real challenge.
