Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has established a new subsidiary in Portugal, aimed at strengthening its defense and security operations in Europe. The subsidiary, named Embraer Defense Europe, will be based in Lisbon.
This move is a significant step in Embraer’s strategy to expand its presence in Europe, with a particular focus on providing innovative defense and security solutions to NATO and European Union (EU) member countries. The new office will be dedicated to meeting NATO and EU defense requirements and will be staffed with professionals specializing in program management, support, and engineering.
According to Bosco da Costa Junior, President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, the new subsidiary reflects Embraer’s long-term vision for Europe. He emphasized the company's commitment to strengthening relationships with European and NATO partners, delivering advanced capabilities to meet the operational needs of European armed forces.
Several European countries, including Portugal, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Netherlands, already use Embraer equipment, such as the C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft and the A-29N Super Tucanoadvanced training and light attack aircraft. Recently, Embraer signed an agreement to sell 12 A-29N Super Tucano aircraft to the Portuguese Air Force, the first version of this aircraft to be adapted to NATO communications systems and operational requirements.
Embraer, a global leader in commercial aircraft for up to 150 seats, operates worldwide, with facilities in the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe. In Portugal, Embraer holds a 65% stake in OGMA – Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal in Alverca.
