El Corte Inglés Targeted by Unauthorized Access to Customer Card Data

El Corte Inglés has confirmed that customer card data was subject to unauthorized access, affecting some of its customers in Portugal. The breach involved sensitive information, including identification and contact details, as well as credit card numbers used for purchases at El Corte Inglés.

The company reported the attack on Sunday but reassured customers that the incident has been "resolved." According to El Corte Inglés, an external supplier was the source of the breach, which was swiftly detected and addressed through security protocols. The supplier was also required to implement additional measures to enhance system security and prevent future incidents.

El Corte Inglés stated that both the relevant authorities and affected customers have been informed about the breach.

Although the unauthorized access exposed sensitive data, the company emphasized that this information does not allow third parties to make payments or operate the El Corte Inglés card. As a result, customers can continue using their El Corte Inglés cards safely, both in physical stores and online via the web and app.
