A new report from Compuworks, called IT Future Trends 2035, says Portuguese companies are still at high risk from cyberattacks and might fall behind in digital competition.
Even though 95% of these companies use some security tools, most don’t have good plans in place to deal with attacks. Also, more than half haven’t used Zero Trust or XDR systems. Ricardo Teixeira, the CEO, says cybersecurity is a big challenge, especially for small and medium-sized businesses.
AI is another important area.
About 55% of companies are looking into using AI, but in 2024, only 8.6% actually used it in Portugal. Teixeira explains that it’s not just about installing something like ChatGPT—it’s a big change for the whole business. Startups are moving quickly in this area, but older SMEs are slower to adapt.
The report also points out that Europe relies heavily on US-based cloud services and foreign-made chips, which makes it hard to achieve full digital independence.
However, Portugal’s location and growing network of data centers give it a special position. Looking forward, the report predicts that hybrid work will be the main way people work by 2035. IT leaders will need to develop skills in cybersecurity, AI, and business strategy to keep up with these changes.
